Mentoring and educating the next generation of trails guides is a great passion of ours and we have put together comprehensive weekend programs for new and upcoming trails guides. We are FGASA registered and our trails mentors are some of the most experience guides in the industry.


How To Become A

Trails Guide

Before you start you need to have a Field Guide Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) Apprentice Field Guide (NQF2 OR NQF4) certificate

Step 1: Observer Hours

The first step to becoming a qualified Trails guide is to complete your observer hours. You will need a minimum of 50 hours and a minimum of 10 encounters from at least 3 of the animal categories as observer while on a trail. This is logged as an observer and signed off by an authorised lead FGASA Trails Guide. Learn more about getting your observer hours logged.

Step 2: Apprentice Trails Guide Programme

Once you have your observer hours logged and have completed the necessary FGASA requirements, you are eligible to enter the Apprentice Trails Guide programme. This programme requires logging 100 mentored guiding hours with 40 encounters in both 1st and 2nd rifle positions and 50 workplace hours with 10 encounters as 1st rifle.
